KALMAN BURKA Peacefully on August 8, 2003 in Toronto, ON. Kalman was born in Alattyan, Hungary in 1915. Having immigrated to Canada in 1957 with his family as refugees, he had deep gratitude and love for this country. With his wife, Victoria, he worked hard to build a new life for his family in Winnipeg, taking pride in the education and achievements of his son and daughter. As a master upholsterer, he was proud of his craft and his work with the government of Manitoba. He contributed his many talents and energy to his community through his work with the Saint Anthony Roman Catholic Church, serving as president of its society. He loved music and sang with the church choir and the nationally award-winning Hungarian Kapisztran Folk Ensemble. After losing Victoria, he retired to Brampton. There he met and married Barbara Balogh with whom he shared a happy retirement until her death in 1998. Kalman will be remembered by his son Attila and wife Marianna, daughter Mariann and partner Noreen, daughter-in-law Marta, grandson Richard and his wife Erika and their daughter Sabrina, granddaughters Stephanie and Victoria and his friends in Canada, United States and Hungary. His family wishes to thank the staff of the Casa Verde Health Centre for their care and compassion. The family attended a mass dedicated to Kalmans memory in Toronto. A mass will be dedicated in Winnipeg at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
